The Ups and Downs of Opposites – An Interactive Reading Book

$49.00

by Joan Green

for ages 4 – 12

In the ‘Ups and Downs of Opposites’, two sentences on each page give examples of pairs of opposites. (eg: The dishes are dirty. The clothes are clean).

Students match the pictures, identify, and label them. They then put the appropriate pictures and words together. (eg: Dishes with dirty, clothes with clean, etc). Students read the sentences with the pictures, then without the pictures, and finally with all the sentences mixed up to make sure students are truely reading. Another fun activity is to take one picture of each set, (eg. keep the “clean” card and put the “dirty” card away) then put the cards face down. Have the child randomly pick up a card, label it and then tell you the opposite. The pictures represent examples of opposites. You can also ask the students to give you other examples of the same concept.(eg. The nut is hard. The feather is soft. Can you tell me something else that is hard? Soft?).

What Professionals and Parents are Saying About Interactive Reading Books!

“I found the Interactive Reading Book “How Do I Feel?” fascinating and will certainly be recommending it both on my webpage and at future presentations throughout the United States.” Tony Attwood, Ph.D. Author, “Asperger’s Syndrome-A Guide for Parents and Professionals”, Educator and Internationally renown presenter on Asperger’s Syndrome

“Wow! I recently received your book, What Color Is It? and wanted to tell you how wonderful it is! My 6 year old daughter is non-verbal and multiply disabled. The book allowed us to have another way to check her understanding of colors and objects. I have shown the book to her teacher, her respite worker and all of her therapists-we all agree that it is terrific. Thank you for making these great books for children with special needs! S. Schmidt-parent

I have gently started my autistic daughter on your interactive books. SHE LOVES THEM! I had put the box of all the books in a special school cabinet to keep them nice. My daughter got into the cabinet and I found her with one of the new books, happy, with a smile on her face, sitting in her favorite chair matching and placing the pictures. I am your biggest fan! Your books and communication cards will be a major part of her language and academic work combined with other things. God Bless you and continued success! D. La Marchina-parent

They have helped so many of my students to learn to read!!!We would like to officially invite you for a trip to Kuwait to lecture at a workshop for our school. It would be our great pleasure to have the famous woman who wrote the books we are using daily! Thank you and I hope to meet you soon! A. Grutchfield-Maliya,M.Ed

“I bought ALL of your books at the Educational Therapist conference last month and LOVE them. They are easy to use and so functional! Many of my students have autism, are entering kindergarten, and are pre-readers. I found your books to be a great adjunct to my therapy. Thanks so much for these great little books!” Ruth Bass,M.S.,CCC-SLP

“I attended your presentation at the National Down Syndrome Conference in San Diego with my 5 year old son, Brandon. Last night I left him with all of the picture squares on the bed and told him, “I’m going to take a bath and when I get out I’ll see how many you get right”. We usually supervise him, but he did all of them by himself and read the pages to my husband and I. It was so exciting!” Teresa G.- Parent

I would just like to write and comment on how WONDERFUL your Interactive Reading Books are. I purchased one of the books last week at the ISHA convention and it has been a HUGE success! My students with autism LOVE it, and do very well with it! It’s so great to see the excitement in their faces as they work through it. I for sure plan on making more purchases in the future! Thank you! Erin Blake, Crystal Lake, Ill.
